Texas sends out three Amber alerts for Chucky doll

In a test malfunction of the Amber alert system, Texas informed residents of a suspect answering to Chucky from the “Child’s Play” film franchise.

The alert was sent to people’s cell phones three times before the error was discovered and squelched. Meanwhile, residents were on the lookout for a red-headed doll carrying a knife and kidnapping a two-foot tall child.

“It described the suspect as being called Chucky and listed him as a 28-year-old with red, auburn hair, blue eyes who stood at 3-feet-1-inch tall and weighed 16 pounds. He was said to be wearing blue denim overalls with a multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt and carrying a large knife – matching his appearance in the films,” according to an article by the Guardian.

The news agency described Chucky as “a child’s toy possessed by the spirit of a dead serial killer, who murders numerous people.” The films first began in 1988 and ran through several sequels.

A piece in the Los Angeles version of CBS Local wrote, “The alert also listed Glen as an abducted child who is 5 years old, weighs 6 pounds, stands at 2 feet 3 inches, and also has red, auburn hair and blue eyes. Glen was described as wearing a blue shirt and black collar prior to his ‘disappearance.'”

The Texas public safety department said, “This alert is a result of a test malfunction. We apologize for the confusion this may have caused and are diligently working to ensure this does not happen again.”
