The main reason why people should learn to play the bass is because of its unique sound and the way it complements the drums. Depending on what kind of music you want to play, bass guitar can be easy to learn, making you sound way cool in a short amount of time.

The bass guitar is only as hard as you make it. It can be an easy instrument to learn, but can be challenging to master. There are a lot of bass players and bass lines out there, all varying in levels of difficulty. Compare these two bass lines: Blink-182’s “First Date” and Rancid’s “Maxwell Murder.” These are two very different approaches to bass playing. “First Date” just follows the root note while “Maxwell Murder” follows more of a scale and also contains a wicked bass solo.

So, why actually play the bass? Because it can get you gigs with bands. There are 10 guitarists for every bass player, yet every band needs a bassist, so it can be way easier to find a band that needs your talent.

If you know a friend who plays the guitar or even the drums, you could buy a bass and then you could jam together to a beat and a chord progression, you could learn cover songs, or write your own songs. The drums and bass go very well together so playing with a drummer is always the best.

Have a listen to your favorite band or song. The bass line may be way cooler than you thought. There are many songs out there that are based around the bass line and taking that away would make the song incomplete and less compelling to the listener. This point alone is a reason to pick up the bass guitar and give it a try.

Every band needs a bass player because without one the song would sound incomplete. The bass helps to fill the gap between the drums and the guitar.

The bass falls into both categories of being a hard instrument and an easy one. If you want an easy instrument to start and learn, you can play very simple bass lines that sound great and everyone will recognize in a matter of days how much you are improving. With some people, it could be just a matter of a few hours to learn enough to sound like a rock star.

If you want a challenge, then the bass can also offer that, as there are many bass lines out there that require years of practice to master and there is always new material and new styles to learn.
