Car Show, BBQ, and Music at Chewelah Casino

Yesterday, the Chewelah Casino held a car show including smoked barbecue entrees with a beer garden, attendee voting for cars in four categories, swag bags for the entrants, and prizes for the winners. There is also an ongoing contest to win a ’72 Chevy Nova.

The music was provided by Key 101 FM, “Spokane’s Greatest Hits,” emceed by radio personality Kent Jones. (See selfie of me and him.)

They served brisket, ribs, quarter chickens (leg and thigh), burgers and franks, with sides of cowboy beans, potato salad and barbecued corn on the cob. The $7 burgers sold out quickly, but the foot-long frank for the same price was delicious, as were the beans and salad. Small bottles of pop added a dollar to the meal, but you could drink all the Aquafina you wanted for free. Additional free drinks were (and continue to be) available at the fountain inside the casino.

The cars shown included various makes and models of restored muscle cars, as well as antique vehicles, including an Army jeep with mounted gun! Many of what I thought were some of the best looking cars are in the slideshow.

The casino is smaller than I imagined it to be, based on the advertising for it in Spokane. They honor the Sun Club card, the same as the Spokane Tribe Casino in Airway Heights. They also let me park in their gravel lot overnight for free, a real bonus for boondockers like me. Naturally, I spent some coin at the machines to pay them back for this kindness.

Now check out the slideshow for all the neato things I saw here:
