Tutors can add a lot to your child’s education. Whether your child is struggling with a certain subject or their entire school load, it’s wise to consider hiring a tutor. There is nothing like one-on-one education, even over internet services like Zoom, and sometimes there are subjects in school that are too difficult for you to help your child as much as a specialist tutor can. With that in mind, here are four key areas to consider when determining whether tutoring might be right for your child.
- Your child is expressing frustration with school.
Is your child struggling with one of their subjects? Hiring a tutor who specializes in that field of study can be very beneficial for helping your child get past an area of difficulty. You don’t have to depend on just one tutor to do it all. You can hire a tutor for each area where your child needs specialized help. School should be challenging but fun. Tutors can not only help your child learn the subject at hand, but also learn to learn, so that future lessons come easier. Tutoring doesn’t have to last the whole school year. Hire one just for the length of time your child needs the assistance.
- Your kids call themselves stupid.
Kids should feel proud of their accomplishments. There are no stupid children, so if your kids are calling themselves “stupid” and give up on their assignments, that’s a sign to seek out a tutor. School teachers do their best, but they can’t necessarily explain everything to everyone in class the way they need to learn it. This is especially true if there is a language barrier. But these hurdles can be overcome.
Miscommunication between teacher and student is a common problem because there is such a wide variety of teaching and learning styles, and one teacher can’t be expected to know them all. Finding the right tutor who communicates well with your child can make all the difference between failure and success.
- You are unfamiliar with the content being studied.
There may be subjects you know well where you could tutor your own child, but that is not always possible. There is also a difference between knowing a subject and being able to teach it. This is when a tutor can make all the difference in the world, as they are constantly studying and reviewing the area of their passion, and are fully equipped to pass it along to those who need that inspiration.
- You and your child are having personality conflicts.
Sometimes there are subjects that you are fully capable of explaining to your child, but walking the fine line between parenting and teaching is tricky. For example, a simple math explanation can become an authority struggle between you and your child, and the lesson fails. Hiring a tutor to help your child with their educational studies helps relieve the personal conflict you have with your child.
These are just some of the many reasons your child may need a tutor. If you want your child to get better grades in school, consider hiring a tutor. With the extra help, your child can discover a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime. I wish you and your children the best in their schooling and I hope this video was helpful.
